Our Mission

Your act of generosity impacts our longevity and how we contribute to our community.

In a joint effort with Bexar County, City of San Antonio, individuals, foundations, and corporations, the historic Municipal Auditorium was redesigned to create the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, a state-of-the-art facility in downtown San Antonio, that provides a world-class venue that promotes a diverse range of cultural, educational and artistic experiences that improve the quality of life in San Antonio.

The Tobin Center includes 3 venues:

  • H-E-B Performance Hall, a 1,750-seat space;
  • Carlos Alvarez Studio Theater, a 300-seat flexible seating theater;
  • and Will Naylor Smith River Walk Plaza, an exterior venue along San Antonio's River Walk.

In 2018, Texas Society for Architects referred to The Tobin Center as the most heavily utilized performing arts venue of its size in the world. The Tobin Center brings renowned artists and touring companies to its stages and provides a home to 5 local resident companies: Ballet San Antonio, The Orchestra San Antonio, Opera San Antonio, Youth Orchestras of San Antonio, and Children's Chorus of San Antonio. In addition to the resident companies, the Tobin is home to an innovative theater production company (100A Productions), community outreach programs, and Generation NEXT Education Initiative.

The Tobin's Community Outreach programs and ticket affinity groups work to ensure everyone feels they belong at the Tobin. Through free wellness, cinema, and cultural events to free and discounted ticketing programs, the Tobin offers access to the arts for everyone. Performing arts and education go hand in hand. The Tobin Center is also the community's "flagship for education". In 2016, Generation NEXT was created to ensure all students throughout have access to the arts and arts education. Pre-K through 12th grade students, special needs individuals, teachers, and aspiring artists participate in a variety of educational and artistic offerings, most of which are offered at no cost to local school districts.
